New Pictures added - thanks Gary.

Do you ever wonder where "that old saying" comes from? Here's a couple from Life in
the 1500 (hundred's):

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was
the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals
(mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the
animals would slip and off the roof. Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the
saying "dirt poor".

More to come - keep checking back

  A New Year - a NEW START!

I am changing this site to enable the descendants from George's siblings to be
included! Our starting couple is now George's parents - Alexis Pelletier & Albertine
Bechard. I will also be adding not only the Pelletier line but the Bechard line back
in time. For those that I don't have email addresses for, PLEASE PASS MY EMAIL ON TO
THEM so they too can be included.
Please send pictures and life events of your families - it will renew the TIE THAT
BINDS US!
Thanks you to the cousins that have passed on information, corrections, pictures and
comments!
Happy New Year 2010 !
Linda & Doug

Just a short update: Check out the following great site for "Pelletier" created by
(another) George Pelletier, M.D. = his site can be found by typing "Pelletier
Genealogy" and it is also listed on many other Quebec sources.

I added our "Pelletier" family-from Doug's grandparents, Alexis & Albertine, down
to our own grandchildren.

* to follow the line back just click on the underlined parents - all the way back to
Nicolas; the first Pelletier to come to Canada (New France) 1636! Lots of interesting
reading!

Well it is (supposed to be) Spring Time in Keewatin but just may get a bit of snow
tonight! This gives me an excuse to fix up my family files since I sure don't want
to go outside.
I will add the grandchildren of George & Antoinette's and great-grandchildren too.
This winter I have found little bits of new info and have tried out a mini book
format but hope to inprove before I feel it is ready for printing.

Local stuff in Kenora: Doug & I attended "Sharing our Stories". It was different
local people who talked about the pioneer days in our area of Lake of the Woods. It
helps to bring their hardships and accomplishments alive! Some of the speakers spoke
about their own ancestors. I have also taken out library books written on our local
area by local authors. I feel this helps in family history to understand why they
settled here. It is also Keewatin's 100th Anniversary this year. Even though we are
now a part of the City of Kenora, we must celebrate Keewatin. It was a very thriving
town with interesting history for our Lake of the Woods area. Many different events
will/and has been held to celebrate it's history throughout this year!

Ancestors of Kenora Genealogy group (ASK) is planning a project to digitally
photograph our Lake of the Woods Cemetery and have the pictures available for
genealogy research. Talks are "in the works" with the Cemetery Manager in hopes of
working with them as a partner. This valuable resource will take time to accumulate
and organize as there are approx. 8000-10000 tombstones. It is also our hope to have
the names and dates of any unmarked graves that are known. There are so many people
who don't know where there ancestors are buried! These cemetery records when compiled
will sometimes give birth dates, wife's names, and death dates. This helps so much
in family searches to put the pieces together. I will update this project in the
future.

I may take a few days to enter more names in this tree - so check back often. Please
leave a note in the guestbook!

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
